Mdonya Old River Camp
Mdonya Old River Camp is situated in the north west of Ruaha National Park beside the old course of the Mdonya River, a few kilometres from the Mdonya Falls. Less well known than some Parks, Ruaha has a wealth of game, over 480 species of birds and large concentrations of elephant, giraffe and buffalo.
Guests are accommodated in 11 large tents, well spaced along side the course of the old river. Simply furnished, each tent has a double or twin bed with an en-suite bathroom that has a flush toilet and open air shower. There is no electricity in the tents and light is provided by candles making this a true safari experience. The dining and lounge tents sit under sycamore fig trees overlooking the dry river bed which is used by game as a corridor, so that guests can enjoy the game viewing while having lunch or relaxing.
Game activities at Mdonya are centred round drives into Ruaha but walks can be arranged (this should be done in advance so a National Park's ranger can be booked). This camp will suit anybody in search of an authentic tented safari experience well away from some of the other more travelled national parks.
