Sand Rivers
Sand Rivers is in Tanzania's Selous Game Reserve, which is the largest reserve in Africa and the second largest protected area in the world. The reserve itself has a very small number of camps and these are set miles apart. If staying at Sand River you will not see anyone apart from your fellow guests and hosts.
Sand Rivers is a truly outstanding camp situated on an outcrop of rock providing stunning views over the Rufiji river and hippos and crocodiles below. The surrounding area provides stunning scenery in a particularly good game area. The camp's eight stone and thatch rooms are large with en suite facilities. Each open sided room overlooks the curve of the river bed which gives the camp its name. There is a large communal area with a dining room and bar. Close by is a swimming pool in the shade of an ancient baobab tree. Sand Rivers also run Rhino House which is a private house just 100 metres from the main lodge. Guests booking this property have the exclusivity and privacy of their own plunge pool, kitchen, chef, butler and private guide
You can choose from walking safaris, boat trips or game drives in an open vehicle. There is also the opportunity to book a fly camping walking trip in advance. As well as large numbers of predators and prey in the Sand Rivers area of Selous, the opportunity to see packs of wild dog is a particular highlight of this area.
